Something to Chip At

Once your Rivet has landed on Stillreach, the Prospecting Quarry is somewhere to work. It is open to anyone with a Cutter and Mining 1: no Rune Fragment, Mission or higher level is needed. An attempt takes about twenty seconds, starts at a 35% chance and is certain by Mining 30, and a success gives one or two Stone and 45 Mining experience. A miss gives nothing at all. Stone is plain rock: 1kg a piece, five to a tile. The Quarry can also turn up a find on a success, one at a time: a Rune Fragment about one success in four, an Uncut Quartz one in six, an Uncut Topaz one in twelve. At low Mining levels that is a way to replace a Rune Fragment you have lost, not the best place to hunt for them.

Very rarely, around one success in two hundred, the find is a Boulder. It is a rock. A single, ordinary, five-kilogram rock, and it is Ultra Rare: it shimmers wherever you carry it, and finding one posts an ULTRA RARE FIND line in General. It does not break up, it cannot be sold to anyone yet, and it does nothing. Make of that what you will.
